spring outfit of the day, outfit of the night

I'm always hesitant to post about fashion or OOTDs (outfit of the day) because I'm not really one to be stylish and fashionable. On most days you'll find me wearing a light sweater, jeans, and my trusty mid-length brown boots. So who am I to post about fashion anyway?

Gone are the days where I was more experimental, or always wearing high heels at the expense of comfort, or weekly dress commitment. I've recently purged my closet of clothes that don't fit in the style I want to be seen in from now on. Anything too cute goes out and I'm trying to be more neutral and to dress my age. I'm also learning to mix and match with the pieces that I kept and learn to dress more with less.

So this Sunday's outfit of the night was one of my first attempts at being well put together with less. But again, the question remains, who am I to blog about fashion?

I figured there are many ladies out there like me who want to look well-presented with the most minimal of clothing pieces in their closet. When I say minimal, it means owning only things that add value to your life. Less is more makes more sense this way.

Like me, you may have found yourself with a closet chock full of clothing items that have a hard time coordinating with each other because of the vast difference in style and colors. I've had enough of that and so I found myself wanting to change up my style and stick to it. I guess if I'm to categorize it, it will loosely fall under smart casual, chic and classic, one that will not fade with the departing season.

I used to wear clothes that will make me look bigger than I really am, and I'm petite so that really isn't very flattering. My reasoning was that I didn't want fitting clothes that would make my stomach bulge, not realizing that in doing so, I made myself look short and big. I know Nick is always quick to make me change if he ever sees me wearing loose tops and now, I know why.

So here's one of the first outfits that I put together after my closet purge. It's very simple and it can be dressed down and up. Change the sweater to a more solid looking blazer, add a necklace and it can be made more fit for a night party.

But today, I'm going more smart casual. And the whole get up is also very affordable.

  • Green sweater from an Asian online store (sadly no longer around)
  • Plain brown tee and black jeans from Forever 21
  • Satchel bag from an Aldo outlet store
  • Tan booties from Parker & Fly from Ross Dress For Less
It is possible to look well put together with less, and not spending too much. I hope to share more style ideas for less.

P.S
It was a cold night in downtown Vancouver so I as actually very cold, but we were mostly inside eating so it wasn't that bad for me. Otherwise, pair with a thicker sweater and all will be good.
