of that sultry palette I didn't know I wanted

I have been avoiding watching reviews and tutorials on YouTube of the new Sultry palette that is Anastasia Beverley Hills' newest palette release. It's not that I'm not a fan, but I'll be honest - my initial thought was it just another ABH palette. You'd think I'd jump onto buying any palette released by ABH (I've got Modern Renaissance and Soft Glam - and they're two of my most favorite palettes) but I've just not been too fond of the Norvina palette they released before Sultry. I used to love purples but I've realized they don't look good on my eyes. So I was pretty "meh" when I heard about this new release.

Cool tones are some of the colors I generally avoid - really not just a fan, so when I saw that this was metallic and cool toned, I easily said I'd pass. I've watched one review of it in passing and managed to not get hyped into buying, which was a big thing for me - those influencers really know how to make me WANT!

story time ~

But back in November, hubby and I went to Sephora - not to buy anything for myself, mind you, it's just become quite a bad habit of mine to stop by that store every time I find myself in the mall. I was actually there to look for a little something for my cousin. We walked around, stopped by a few different makeup brands, got to the Anastasia Beverly Hills aisle and hubby casually picked this up to show me. It was pretty but I kept my calm and acted nonchalant about it. I pointed out MR and SG to him and said I have those two already and the Norvina I didn't like. He asked if I liked the Sultry palette and I casually asked, "Why? Will you buy it for me?" He said, "yes I will." So I grabbed it immediately. But I really want to see if I really wanted it so we walked around more and came back to it, finally swatched one of the shadows and the moment it was done, I was done for as well. I was sold!

I smiled all the way home and binged watched tutorials and makeup ideas on the Sultry palette and that's when I really knew - it was the palette I didn't know I wanted, and I already have it! The sultry and full glam looks you could do with this palette is astounding! I still have yet to really play with eyeshadow colors that are not warm-toned and this palette I can tell will teach me, and make me love cool tones as well!

There are seven mattes and seven shimmers and the colors make for a full palette. You have your brow bone/setting color, light and darker transition colors, amazing shimmers for your lid, and dark brown and black for the ultimate smokey eye look.

The seven mattes are ~

Fresh - skin/setting color
Bloom - bright pink
Birch - cool tan
Twig - light brown
Dystopian - dark brown
Slate - cool grey
Noir - black

The seven shimmers are ~

Pearl - light champagne
Steam Punk - light gold
Rose Quartz - light rose gold
Ember - dark gold (with an olive undertone)
Cinder - bronze
Teak - copper
Cyborg - silver

Now, like all ABH palette, expect it to have fallout and lots of kickback. These are not necessarily bad things but may be annoying to some. These don't bother me though. I've learned to work around these - carefully dipping my brush into the palette and doing my eyes first before my face makeup. Plus, I really can't fault the Sultry palette for these things as the shadows are so blendable. It's easy to create looks as the theme makes it easy to identify which ones are your transition colors, which are your lid poppers, and which ones to use to smoke out your looks.

I've played with this palette during the holidays (of course!) and I liked how they all turned out. But I only have a couple of photos with this palette on. They're not the best, mind you. I have yet to know how to properly take photos of makeup looks. I'll share more when I use it again!

Though its general theme makes it really ideal for mostly glam and special occasion looks, it's a palette I don't regret picking up!
