of that friday smile

Look back, and smile on perils past.

Walter Scott

Nicholas has a new toy to add to his ever-growing collection of studio lighting equipment. He is such a strobist (aka one who likes to use strobes to light his subjects). And because he is still an amateur and don't know a lot of subjects, there I am again, happily posing in the cold.

Well, I was until an hour into it and we still couldn't get the shot that he wanted. I'm a terrible model, but maybe only to him cause I can whine and complain, the basic dynamics of our relationship. I'm kidding. I vow to support Nick in whatever he sets his mind to so I will stand in the cold, despite my complaining, so he could practice his skills. This shot makes it all worth it, though! I really want him to find his style and I think he's slowly starting to see a vision of it.

Everyone needs a hobby - a man, especially

I'm quite proud of him, really,  for finally knowing what he wants to do as a hobby, and constantly learning to improve his craft. I see him inhale all these tutorials, read up on all the techniques, message individuals whose works he admires in order to ask a question or get a pro tip, follow photography social media accounts, read up on updates and upgrades to improve his skills, and look up thousands of photos for inspiration.

As much as I whine about how expensive this hobby is, I do like this side of him. He's passionate about it and you can see it in his eyes and the way he talks about it. Okay, I sound so cliche and in love. But it is true, I could probably use other words to describe him though. I have to admit that sometimes I get jealous on the way he talks about photography, but more so on how passionate he is about it. I'm sure I've been passionate about something before, but as of the past couple of years, I am passionate about a lot of things that I tend to spread myself thin. On the other hand, he is as excited as a kid on Christmas day when he starts talking about it! It makes me happy that he has something to look forward to doing, something that enhances his skills that would remain otherwise dormant.

It's possibly also a factor that I share his passion on photography at some level, that I get excited for him as well.

In any case, keep your passion alive, babe, and continue enhancing your talent!

Keep livin' happy! ☺
