week 10/52: one cold night
Wednesday, March 8, 2017
This was taken on a very chill Saturday, spent much at home. Nick and I literally bummed it out the entire day until I had enough of it and asked to be taken out.
Now, if you don't know it yet, Nick is a pro at looking for restaurants to eat at. Discovering early on in our dating days that we are both foodies made being together easier, as long as we have great food to enjoy. Okay, I know it isn't a real skill to be a pro at but in a city (any city really) where there are literally hundreds of places to eat at, I tend to always just pick the place I've been going to for ages. I know I should be more adventurous, but that's why Nick is in my life.
So this particular Saturday, he chose this newly-opened Vietnamese cafe in Richmond. He said, "You'll like this place," and I had my doubts. Sure, I enjoy a good pho on any given cold night but I'm thinking it would be same as any other Vietnamese restaurant. He was actually pitching it to me on our way there, building up my anticipation for it.
We arrived and on the basis of just interior alone, I'm already sold! It is the prettiest Vietnamese cafe I've gone to. I don't think I've gone to a lot but this tops it. The interior is all of dainty, modern and vintage. It's the kind of interior that I want our future place to be. Simple design but with mixes of vintage pieces and retro color. Not a lot will appreciate that but I do and I was really happy eating my dinner here with Nick. This also proves he knows me well. (I'll talk more about the food on my other blog as that's an entirely different post to write!)
I was really happy I had my Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 with me at that time (not that I ever go out without it!). It was certainly the place you'd like to take pictures of every corner! Though I wasn't able to as the place was really packed, I took a few shots and got to use features I don't get to use often - bulb, party, and kid modes. There were photos that turned out good, some could be better, and one fail. Lesson learned for the fail, really. I'll be sure to share them on here in the next few weeks.
Nick eating his spicy beef noodles (I think that's what he ordered) was taken with kids mode on. I didn't want a photo of him looking as I'm now trying to be more candid with my instax photography and the kids mode was perfect for this. He was blowing and mixing his soup when I took the shot and there's no blur at all. Granted, he may not be as fast as running kids (where this mode will really be put to the test) but I still think it is a good shot for an instax camera.
So despite a lazy start, it actually ended up being quite a productive day in the end. We had our rest, had our cute and simple date, and I had my fill of instax shots.
