week 4/52: seoul soup

Friday, January 27, 2017

With winter comes the possibility of snow, even in rain-soaked Vancouver. We actually had a downpour of snow for days without letting up that roads have been closed, cars crashed, trains stopped working, and people just worked from homes. We clearly do not know how to function in snow.

Cuddles and warmth have been sought and we found ourselves even more drawn to warm soups to soothe our freezing cold soul, body and feet. For me, the choices are just between Japanese ramen, Vietnamese pho, or the Korean gamja-tang. This day we found ourselves comforting our cold slurping gamja-tang or pork back-bone stew. If you check the link above, you know how much love I've given to this ever since I've tasted it for the first time.

But let's talk about this shot. It'll be obvious now that ever since starting this 52-Week Instant Photo Challenge, I don't go anywhere without my Mini 90. I'm always ready to test it out and see the progress (or regress) of my instax photography. The photo above was a risky shot for me - I stand below five feet and wanted to take it from directly above and at a higher perspective. So I blindly hovered my instax camera (I couldn't very well stand on a chair so I can look at the viewfinder to frame it right), hoped to God it would turn out okay, and clicked away.

I was surprised that it turned out good and sort of artistic, if I do say so myself. Okay, maybe a little more of the soup but otherwise, I'm pretty happy about it and the vivid colors are there in contrast to the light and dark elements in it. Definitely a happy snapper.
