week 5/52: snow belles

Friday, February 3, 2017

The day after my cousin finally arrived in Canada, snow started pouring and we quickly became blanketed in white. Vancouver has become a winter wonderland. At least it does look like it in our parks. And though the city roads have become a huge parking lot of piled up crashed cars, snowboarders were quick to grab their boards out and actually board on the roads. So you lose some, and then you win some.

I know it was a truly winning situation for my cousin Jacqui. You see, she'd been adamant in wanting to experience snow and make snow angels. I told her it barely snows in Richmond. She was supposed to arrive in early January so at least the possibility of those were higher. But processing delays got in the way and she ended up rescheduling her flight for the first week of February. Snow would be gone by then, I told her, and she was devastated. Well, I was wrong. Her prayers are more powerful than statistically normal meteorological weather conditions in Richmond and with her arrival came the downpour of snow.

We set out to Minoru Park to make sure she gets to make the snow angels and have the first tour of the city as well. The snow was thick and powdery, just the perfect texture to enjoy it. There were even bunnies hopping around, clearly pleased at all the white fluff that fell from the sky. Jacqui got her snow angel and played with the bunnies too. It was biting cold, mind you, but it was a pretty good snow day out and topped off with warm soothing soup.
